This is my private Open University blog recording the ups & downs of being an Arts student for the first time at age 36. Started in late January 2006, I hope to use this blog to vent my frustrations plus celebrate my triumphs as well as show to other newby OU students that they're not alone!

At Page 124! Thank God!

Well, after my last homicidal post you will be glad to know I have calmed down quite a lot and managed to make a helluva lot of progress since then. One other factor I didn't take into consideration last time was that Week 12 has absolutely nothing to do with TMA4, so that has shortened the amount of reading to be done before then. I'm still mad at the utter discriminatory nature of the planning in A103, but I'll use tonight's tutorial to draw attention to this and seek solace from others in the group.

I have to say...Marwick's writing is soooooooo boring in weeks 9 & 10. Yes, there are plenty of events in the French Revolution period we all need to take stock of but why waffle them out so to 70+ pages? This was why I was frustrated so much last week - he writes too densely for the time we have left in this block and it's tempting to just chuck the book out the window to go off and do something more fun. Luckily, he's picked up the pace for Unit 11 - Rousseau's 'Social Contract' - and this is waaaaay more interesting! This unit is much easier to work through than the earlier ones I had problems with. Mind you, over the weekend I got some very good news which helped spur me on to stay with it. I think it might be a bit naughty to my tutor to tell you here & now in my public blog what that news was, but let's just say that the elders of A103 were absolutely right in telling me I should contact her and discuss my frustrations. Doing that (& its consequences) has proved successful as I'm now only 26 pages away from completion of the unit and I can now envisage working on the TMA very soon. More importantly, I'm enjoying it again.

And just think Sean that you just start getting over the Arfur experience and then he pops up again. ;-)
We Octoberries have had OU cock ups galore this week so with you on your dischuffness-is that even a word with them at the moment. Good luck and glad you are enjoying it again-it does seem Arfur has a way of putting alot of people off.
